Two Sundays ago, I came across an article on Bobby Chinn's upcoming World Cafe Asia series featuring the Middle East. At the end of the article was a simple contest which requires me to answer 2 questions and complete a slogan. Easy peasy right? And all you have to do is email your entry over. Ergo, no cost!
The Prize? A free dinner for two with Bobby Chinn at JW Marriott.
The Catch? Middle Eastern cuisine.
Duh. Not that I mind, I'm for one is up for anything when it comes to food. I mean, my colleagues don't call me "tamchiak girl" for nothing. That, and of course, the fact that I go hungry very fast.
Wait! Where was I?
Oh yes. So I joined the contest. Come on lah, it's dinner with Bobby Chinn! There's only one other person I might give a pass on Bobby to dine with, Anthony Bourdain. Hahaha.. but Bourdain's American charm doesn't strike my mom's fancy. So if there's really such a decision to be made, Bobby gets my mom's support, plus he kinda do hit closer to home.
Now, remember The Catch I mentioned earlier that it being Middle East cuisine? While, that's not half as bad since I appreciate food no matter how essentric they may get. The Problem however, was that the closing date for the competition was on the 15th, that's a Friday. The dinner is on the 20th. Minus the weekend and all that's left is a 3-day lead time for whatever plans you need should you win the prize.
And let's not forget the fact that I'm from Penang.
So I got a call on Monday saying that I won the competition. Freaked out a little, panicked a little and then decided "I want to going!" So I went in and see the boss.
Me: "Umm... boss, do you know who Bobby Chinn is?"
Boss: "No."
-__-
Well, that was expected. If I were to ask "Do you know there's a TLC channel on Astro?" I'll probably get a "No." as well. Totally salah channel lah. Luckily Mrs Boss was around.
Mrs Boss: "Oh, he's that chef host is it?"
Me: "Yaya. Well, I sorta won a dinner with him this Wednesday... it's pretty last minute."
Mrs Boss: "Oh then you must go!"
Yay! Got support!
So after making sure my work schedule permits me to go MIA, I was let off for the rest of the week. And so it began. My Impromptu Holiday!
your face can say you're lying when your mouth says you're not,
your pants are on fire but they're not too hot
when it's a white lie (white lie),
it's the kind you want to tell,
a white lie (white lie),
so your dad won't have to yell,
a white lie (white lie),
everybody does it 'cause it's feel alright
and it's more polite,
but a lie is still lie, even when it's white.
While it might be hard to say what's true,
would you want a white lie told to you?
Lovely! I hearts this a lot.
Who would have thought there's such a heart-warming scene in 'Lie to Me'. Hah! Then again, it's a songs about lies... so... *shrugs* And did I ever mention how I secretly adore Loker and his inability to lie. Poor dude. Gotta love/hate a guy that just had to tell you the truth.
Remember my attempt for my 15 minutes of fame HERE?
Hah! It happened!
Well, not exactly 15 minutes. *sheepish smile* Gosh, I think barely made pass 15 seconds worth of fame but it happened! I watched with my hands over my eyes. Yup, the type where the fingers are all spread out with gaps all over, the "paiseh but still wanna see" kind. I was soooo worried I made a fool out of myself there. But I guess TV3 are full of kind-hearted souls that edited what I think are the good sides of us many hopefuls. Nothing dramatically bad or embarassing for any of us I must say. Maa maa deshio.
And my mom keep on saying "You're on TV!"
Heh.
Yup. It might not be 15 minutes nor am I sure if I made it pass 15 seconds, expressing what I thought after the audition like that but I can proudly put it down in my list of things I have done in attempt to show my existance to world.
Gotten my name on the newspaper before, got my face up on tv, got my thoughts up on the Internet. Hmmm... next up, my voice on radio?
DREAM BIG in small ways.
It works!
********
ps: No clip yet. Doubt there will be. Promise I'll post if I have the clip.
pps: No harm promoting something you were so eagered to be an ambassador for in the first place. So here it is, linkie to webbie. My Aussie Adventure. Watch it. Every Sunday, 7.30pm on TV3! *winks* Too bad I'm not the one hosting it for ya! XD
Congratulation! You have been shortlisted to be auditioned for a screen test to be an ‘Aussie Ambassador’ in-conjunction with the ‘My Aussie Adventure’ travalogue at:
blah blah blah aka details
How cool is that? Win or lose, the "screen test" itself will be a "heaven" of an experience! I have no idea what is installed for me this Saturday though. Totally lack of information in the mail. I googled the definition of "audition" and "screen test" and was left with endless possibilities with my uncontrolled imagination. @__@
Me : I'm coming down this weekend. Me : But I doubt I can meet up with you. Cubbie : Oh. What are you here for? Me : Audition. Cubbie : Whaaaaa??? Me : You hear me right. Cubbie : Singing?? Me : *blinks* Why must audition associate with singing? Cubbie : Ya mah. Audition. Amercian Idol. Me : Then what about "screen test". Cubbie : Acting?
HAHAHAHA.
Yup. That's four HAs. Rarely you'll get that from me but today is so great I'll throw in another two HAs for that matter and in bold. =P
HAHAHAHA-HAHA.
As if one amusing conversation is not enough, here's another which is just too funny to be angry about.
Me : I need to apply emergency leave tomorrow for this Saturday. Cik Datang : Why? Me : Gotta go down KL. Cik Datang : Interview ah? *getting curious* Me : Ya. *taunting* Cik Datang : Where? *now all eagered* Me : TV# Cik Datang : Wah. Newscaster? *shocked and excited* Me : Ya right. Competition lah. Not for a job lah. *nyek nyek nyek*
After some explanation.
Cik Datang : Got send picture wan ah? Me : What are you implying? My face not good enough for tv issit??
Hmmph Hmmph!
That being that. Gotta settle some things tomorrow. Top on the list - My Emergency Leave!
*Sadly I have to remove the video because I think there's some error in the script that's giving me problems. Hmmm... * Instead, you can click here to view the very awesome clip. =)
Now repeat after me.
AWESOME!
Yes, my weekly dose of Dr House is back. Yes, this episode was aired after the Superbowl. Yes it was yesterday or probably this morning if you're living by Malaysian time. Yes, therefore the episode is now floating around the internet.
Yep. House-less. Not homeless. And yes I am thankful for that. But it's been two months of House deprived. -___- It's like I've been skipping my weekly dose of medicine. Hah... a pun! I get the whole "Writers on Strike" thingy. Heck, I write for a living and we got to fight for what we think we deserved. *shakes head* Why do writers go under appreciated? I guess people think writing is easy. Yea, writing is not that hard, writing good good stuff is a whole lot different though. Writing to pleased others, that even harder. And I'm rambling way out of topic now.
I want my sarcastic Doctor with sucky bedside manners back.
ONE MORE DAY!
Okay... to be realistic by the time I get to watch the new episode...
