Dory Couldn't Have Said It Better

Swim
Songwriters: Mcmahon, Andrew Ross

You've gotta swim, swim for your life
Swim for the music that saves you
When you're not so sure you'll survive

You gotta swim and swim when it hurts
The whole world is watching
You haven't come this far to fall off the earth
The currents will pull you away from your love
Just keep your head above

I found a tidal wave begging to tear down the dawn
Memories like bullets, they fired at me from a gun
Crack in the armor, yeah

I swim for brighter days despite the absence of sun
Choking on salt water
I'm not giving in, I swim

You gotta swim through nights that won't end
Swim for your family, your lovers, your sisters
And brothers, and friends

Yeah, you gotta swim through wars without cause
Swim for the lost politicians
Who don't see their greed as a flaw

The currents will pull us away from our love
Just keep your head above

I found a tidal wave begging to tear down the dawn
Memories like bullets, they fired at me from a gun
A crack in the armor, yeah

I swim for brighter days despite of the absence of sun
Choking on salt water
I'm not giving in, well, I'm not giving in, I swim

You gotta swim, swim in the dark
There's no shame in drifting
Feel the tide shifting and wait for the spark

Yeah, you gotta swim, don't let yourself sink
Just find the horizon
I promise you, it's not as far as you think

The currents will drag us away from our love
Just keep your head above
Just keep your head above, swim
Just keep your head above, swim, swim
Just keep your head above, swim

I know it's not a new song but I just discovered it recently and I've been having it on repeat since. Then I youtube it for the video and love it even more. I guess I just found another pick-me-up, be strong and fight when the world gets you down song.

Yosh! Fighto!

Or like how Dory from Finding Nemo would say it,
“JUST KEEP SWIMMING!"

Grandpa's Song

That's not the title of song but that's what I called it.

I remember living with my grandparents when I was doing my internship in Penang and one day while waving my goodbyes as I head off for work, my grandpa stood at the front door and sang this to me.

"Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Cheerio, here I go, on my way
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Not a tear, but a cheer, make it gay"

I immediately fell in love with the song and went all out to search for it on the internet. I asked grandpa what's the title of the song but he couldn't named the exact title and therefore, I fondly called it "Grandpa's Song". It turned out to be a World War II song that was sang to the troops as they head off for war. Today I'll sing it back to my dearest grandpa as he ventures on his journey to the other side.

Full Lyrics of Wish Me Luck (As You Wave Me Goodbye)
a song by Harry Parr-Davies, made popular during WWII by Gracie Fields

Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Cheerio, here I go, on my way
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Not a tear, but a cheer, make it gay
Give me a smile I can keep all the while
In my heart while I'm away
Till we meet once again, you and I
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye

Though I've always listened to this version with a male lead
as it reminds me of the way grandpa sang it.

I Heart Singing Words (iii)

"Fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers, be good to your daughters too."

- John Mayer "Daughters"

*waves to dad*

Be good to me ya! Hehe...

I'm in the Zone Tonight

Just so we're clear. I'm not paranoid. I just have the song on repeat tonight. On the contrary, I'm in a happy mood which explained the out-of-the-blue blogging right now.

*******

Paranoid Android
by Radiohead

Please could you stop the noise, I'm trying to get some rest
From all the unborn chicken voices in my head
What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but not an android)
What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but not an android)

When I am king, you will be first against the wall
With your opinion which is of no consequence at all
What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but no android)
What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but no android)

Ambition makes you look pretty ugly
Kicking and squealing gucci little piggy
You don't remember
You don't remember
Why don't you remember my name?
Off with his head, manOff with his head, man
Why don't you remember my name?
I guess he does....

Rain down, rain down
Come on rain down on me
From a great height
From a great height... height...
Rain down, rain down
Come on rain down on me
From a great height
From a great height... height...
Rain down, rain down
Come on rain down on me

That's it, sir
You're leaving
The crackle of pigskin
The dust and the screaming
The yuppies networking
The panic, the vomit
The panic, the vomit
God loves his children, God loves his children, yeah!

*******

The lyrics are all weird. Hey don't look at me. Research on the internet says it's actually three songs/stories written into one but I wouldn't want to go into the details. I just want to hit the Replay button again and again. As much as a lyrical person I am, tonight it's just all about the music.

Yeah. Even the music video is weird. o_O

I Heart Singing Words (i)

"Anything other than yes is no,
anything other than stay is go,
anything less than 'I love you' is lying"
